Local Drought

What To Do:
This square only affects Natural Pastures (orange paddocks) and Improved Pastures (green paddocks). It does not affect Irrigated Pastures (blue paddocks). When you land on this square, if you have sheep on Natural or Improved Pastures you must sell half of them to the bank. (If you have an odd number of pens, calculate up to the next highest number).

Sell Price:
If you have a Haystack, pick up the next "Stock Sale" card to get your selling price then return your haystack to the bank. If you do not have a haystack the bank will pay you $200 per pen.
The duration of the drought is for a complete circuit of the board. Place a "Drought Marker" disc the same colour as the player's token to mark the start of the drought.

While you are affected by drought:

  • You can't buy Improved pasture or Irrigated pasture.
  • You can't buy sheep on "Natural" or "Improved" pasture. (But you can buy sheep for your irrigated pasture)
  • You can sell sheep (if you land on a Stocksale) but you only get half normal price.
  • You can buy Stud Rams, for normal price.
  • You can buy a haystack: price is $1,000 (even if you have some irrigated pasture as well as improved pasture.)
  • Local rain breaks the drought.
  • Landing on Flood Damage does not break drought.
  • You do not have to return haystack if you have no sheep when you land on drought
  • If you land on drought while you are already in drought, your drought is extended but you do not need to sell more sheep or return your haystack if you have bought another one.
  • You can buy and sell sheep from Irrigated pasture, if you owned the Irrigated pasture before the drought. However, a haystack still costs $1,000.
  • If you land on drought while you are already affected by "bore dries up" then improved pastures and irrigated pastures are all affected by the drought until you complete a circuit; use the drought marker. You do not need to sell more sheep or return your haystack in this case.

What happens if I own improved pasture and irrigated pasture at the same time?

  • You can buy sheep on "Irrigated" pasture (unless you are also in "bore dries up" when you land on drought).
  • You can buy and sell sheep from Improved pasture, if you owned the Improved pasture before the drought. However, a haystack still costs $1,000.

What happens if I own improved pasture and irrigated pasture at the same time and I am already in "bore dries up" when I land on drought?

  • This is rotten luck, but it can happen in real life too. If you land on drought while you are already affected by "bore dries up" then irrigated pastures and improved pastures are all affected by the drought until you complete a circuit; use the drought marker.
  • You do not need to sell more sheep or return your haystack in this case.
